The DXi7500 Express is the disk backup solution for distributed and enterprise environments that allows users to add policy-based de-duplication, remote replication and direct tape creation to their backup strategy to increase performance, enhance data protection and reduce costs. The DXi7500 Express combines disk
performance to keep backup windows short with data deduplication
technology to reduce capacity requirements by 90 percent or more. The
result is high speed backup and restore and lower overall costs across both
virtual and physical servers.
The DXi7500 is designed to protect midrange environments, easily providing storage for more than 100TB of backup data in up to 11TB of usable disk space. The amount of primary data that can be protected ranges from 3 to 8TB depending on the amount of redundant data, growth rates, length of retention, system configuration, and length of time the system will be deployed.

Remote Replication of Backup Data Providing Automated Disaster Recovery Protection
DXi3500, DXi7500 Express and DXi7500 models all offer compatible support for remote replication. DXi7500 Express replication is asynchronous, one-to-one or multiple-to-one configurations; partitions in same unit act as replication source or target; units with partitions acting as replication targets can also support local backup; application-aware replication available through support for Symantec OpenStorage (OST) API for NetBackup and Backup Exec 2010.
OST Support
Symantec OpenStorage (OST) API Support – Support for OST is an option on all DXi7500 units, allowing users to write data to OST logical storage units (LSUs) and enabling application-aware replication with NetBackup and Backup Exec 2010. DXi-Series units with direct tape path capability support the OST direct path to tape introduced in NetBackup 6.5.4.
Direct Tape Creation
Direct tape creation for VTLs—physical tape can be written in background over a dedicated Fibre Channel connection without using media server or backup SAN. Function maintains barcode integrity between virtual and physical tapes and is compatible with backup software direct to tape commands (e.g., Backup Exec, NetBackup, EMC Networker, Oracle Secure Backup, and Atempo TimeNavigator).
Scalability
Field upgrades to the full DXi7500 Enterprise disk backup systems are available. All disk is retained and all data is preserved during the upgrade.
